Water Pump

Dual Reciprocating Piston Water Pump using a Scotch-Yoke Mechanism

In MAE 2250: Mechanical Synthesis, I was tasked with designing and manufacturing a piston water pump. I was chosen by my group of 4 other students to be the group Lead and Schedule Coordinator. We designed and manufactured this Dual Reciprocating Piston water pump and submitted a final paper describing our process. In testing, our device was able to pump 1.7L of water, giving a 6% efficiency, mostly due to water leakage. Given our limited materials and short turnaround time, our pump still performed, unlike many groups whose pumps did not fit in the test fixture or move at all. Despite the sub-optimal outcome, I still learned a great deal about working in a fast-paced environment with a team of engineers to complete a technical mechanical project.
